Dominican Republic August 2025

For our summer holiday this year we decided to go to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. It was our first visit to this Caribbean island and we were not disappointed.

Punta Cana is a popular resort destination situated on the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic. It has one of the longest white sand coastlines in the Caribbean with a total of 48 kilometres. Its known for its clear blue waters and tropical climate making it a popular destination for those in search of the perfect beautiful sunny getaway.

The best time to visit for sunny, dry weather is during the peak season from December to April but temperatures are tropical all year round. Visiting in August we were prepared to see some rain but apart from the odd 10 minute shower on 3 or 4 evenings it was hot, sunny and dry for the duration of our 12 night trip.

We stayed at the Sunscape Coco Resort which is part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection. Its situated on its own beach and has 7 swimming pools. Its a family friendly hotel with lots of activities for adults and children alike. It also boasts its own spa that offers an array of treatments.

The resort features 1,059 rooms and suites, all with a private furnished balcony or terrace, air conditioning, and mini bar stocked with soft drinks, bottled water and beer. This gets refreshed daily.

There are 13 dining options, including both buffet and a la carte restaurants serving various cuisines (Italian, Asian, Mexican, etc) plus a coffee shop and 12 bars and lounges, including a swim up bar.
